Townsville City Council is encouraging residents to be prepared for wet weather with a tropical low sitting just off the North Queensland coast.
Mayor Jenny Hill said that current predictions show little risk to Townsville, but the community should be prepared in case things change.
“Townsville has had some decent rainfall over the weekend and that is expected to continue throughout today and parts of the week,” Cr Hill said.
“This is a typical wet season event, but we do want the community to be prepared in case conditions change – this includes having any cyclone preparations finalised and
having an emergency kit in place.
“At the moment, we’re asking residents to be aware of the wet weather and to keep an eye on the disaster dashboard for updates.”
Cr Hill said that the weather is normal for the monsoonal season.
“We may see some road closures in parts of the city that are prone to flooding following the consistent rain and significant tides,” she said.
“I’m asking our community to stay safe, drive to the road conditions and follow any road closure signage.
“Remember that if it’s flooded, forget it.”
