DISASTER CHAPLAINCY TRAINING
Supporting Our Communities When It Matters Most
When disaster strikes, people often face much more than the immediate loss of homes, belongings or a sense of safety. In the middle of uncertainty, shock and grief, having someone there who can simply listen, care and offer compassionate support can make an enormous difference.
The Queensland Disaster Chaplaincy Network (QDCN) is offering two-day Disaster Chaplaincy Training for accredited chaplains and credentialed ministers who hold ordination with their denomination or accreditation with a recognised chaplaincy organisation.
Funded by Queensland Churches Together, this specialised training equips chaplains and ministers to support individuals, families and communities affected by disasters.
What does the training cover?
Day One explores Disaster Chaplaincy within the Queensland context, including the important role chaplains play within evacuation and recovery centres.
Day Two focuses on trauma, helping participants understand the different ways disasters can affect people and how they can provide appropriate, compassionate support during incredibly difficult circumstances.
Completion of both days enables eligible clergy, chaplains and ministers to be deployed to support people inside evacuation and recovery centres, as authorised by local Councils and the Queensland Government.
Upcoming Training
Townsville
Friday 9th & Saturday 10th of October at 9:00am – 4:30pm each day
Disasters can change people’s lives in moments, but they can also reveal the strength of a community that chooses to stand together.
If you’re an eligible chaplain, minister or member of the clergy, this training is an opportunity to be equipped to step into some of life’s hardest moments and offer something incredibly valuable — a calm presence, a listening ear and compassionate care when people need it most.
