FREE PET MICROCHIPPING THIS WEEKEND AT CITY LIBRARIES AITKENVALE

05/08/2022

Townsville’s pooch parents and feline families can get their fur babies microchipped for free this weekend at CityLibraries Aitkenvale.

Townsville City Council is encouraging anyone with an un-microchipped cat or dog to make a booking and come to the library’s car park on Saturday, 6 August.

Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said Council would hold the microchipping event at Aitkenvale to make it more accessible for residents. “We are holding our microchipping event on the weekend to make it easier for those who work during the week and couldn’t attend free microchipping events held during the week in the past. Part of being a responsible pet owner is ensuring your animal is microchipped, and your details are correct and up to date. Council wants to make it as easy as possible for pet owners to get their animals microchipped. We know pets are an important part of the family, and it is important that we know they can be returned home safely if they become lost. Microchipping your animal makes it more likely they will be reunited with your family if they become lost,” Cr Soars said.

Cr Soars said they would hold more events over the year to encourage people to get their animals chipped.

“We are also going to be holding more events on 5 November 2022, 4 February 2023 and 6 May 2023 for people who can’t make it this weekend,” Cr Soars said.

Free microchipping is only available to Townsville pets who are registered or have a permit with Townsville City Council.

Limited spots are available, and bookings are required. Go to Council’s What’s On for more details.
