SAND REPROFILING TO REINSTATE PUBLIC ACCESS TO MYSTIC SANDS BEACH

The Balgal Beach shoreline will receive a renewed lease on life with beach reprofiling of the coastal area beginning this week.

The beach reprofiling works are part of Townsville City Council’s ongoing Shoreline Erosion Management Plan.

Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said the beach reprofiling along the foreshore will reinstate public access to the beach.

“The beach at Mystic Sands is very popular among both residents and visitors, so it’s important that we work to mitigate the impacts of coastal erosion to keep the beach pristine and accessible,” Cr Soars said. “This project involves redistributing sand that has accumulated on sections of the beach to impacted areas along the foreshore. Doing this work now will make it easier to restore the beach following the upcoming wet season and ensure that the beach access paths are maintained. We’re expecting these works to take around two weeks to complete, and there will be a partial closure of the beach while the machinery is on site, so we thank everyone for their patience while we get this done.”
