Celebrate the spirit of Christmas by showing kindness and building connections with your neighbours with the help of Townsville City Council’s Bringing Christmas Together competition.
The competition gives locals the chance to win one of 25 $200 vouchers to hold a neighbourhood event to spread the Christmas cheer and build community spirit.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Bringing Christmas Together was about igniting relationships between neighbours.
“Social resilience is the ability to build relationships with the people around us, including people who have different backgrounds, interests and skills. One of the easiest way to meet people with diverse backgrounds is by getting to know your neighbours,” Cr Greaney said.
“It can be hard to break the ice, which is why the Building Christmas Together competition is the perfect opportunity to hold a street party and get to know the people in your neighbourhood.
“We’ve been running the Bringing Christmas Together competition for a few years now and since then I’ve seen dozens of awesome street party set ups and have heard stories from locals who have forged friendships from these events. If you think your neighbourhood needs to be more connected, I’d strongly encourage you to enter the competition.”
Cr Greaney said going in the running to win one of 25 $200 vouchers was easy.
“All you have to do is jump onto Council’s website and tell us how you’re going to build relationships and connections in your neighbourhood this festive season,” she said.
“You’ll then go in the running to win one of 25 $200 shopping vouchers to hold a neighbourhood event to bring joy and connection to your neighbours this Christmas.”
