Library lovers will be able to visit a new library location with the Mobile Library setting up shop at Riverway every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until the new Riverway Library opens next year.
The Mobile Library includes a selection of items, including books, DVDs and CDs.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the Mobile Library would provide another option for Thuringowa Library users until the new Riverway Library opened in the new year.
“Council is working towards the opening of the new Riverway Library, which is being built following significant community consultation to ensure the new library meets the needs of the community,” Cr Greaney said.
“As part of the transition to the new library, Council has opted to run its Mobile Library at Riverway each Friday, Saturday and Sunday to service the community.
“The Mobile Library is connected to the other CityLibraries branches, which means you can return loans and borrow books, DVDs and CDs from the Mobile Library. You can collect your reservations from the Mobile Library, and we will also be running activities at the Mobile Library, so stay up to date by heading to the What’s On Townsville website.
“This is the first step towards opening a new public asset for our community to enjoy, and I’m looking forward to heading into the new Riverway Library when it opens to the public early next year.”
The Mobile Library will be set up outside gate one at Riverway Stadium and is open now.
