Council Continues Flood Waste Clean Up

Townsville City Council will continue to collect kerbside rubbish in flood impacted zones to help residents clean up after the unprecedented flood event.

Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Deputy Mayor Les Walker said Council will also continue to provide residents with free dumping of domestic waste at all Council’s waste facilities until 3 March.

“Council crews are still undertaking kerbside clean ups in the worst impacted areas including parts of Railway Estate, Hermit Park, Oonoonba, Idalia, Rosslea, Annandale, Mundingburra,” Cr Walker said.

“Residents in other areas can take their rubbish to any of Council’s waste sites as well as Lou Litster Park for free to help the community with the flood clean up.

“So far residents have dumped over 18,000 tonnes of waste during this recovery period.”

Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said all residents will be able to take advantage of the annual free hard waste kerbside collection later on this year.

“Council will begin the 2019 free hard waste kerbside collection service in late March,” Cr Cook said.

“Residents are urged not to place waste out for collection until receiving notification of this service because the regular kerbside collection service is different to the current flood clean up.

“Free kerbside hard waste collection works in conjunction with other waste services provided by Council like free green waste and recycling disposal and free dump weekends.

“Please remember you can dispose of your green waste or recyclables for free all year round.”
