SEE THE POOR, MARGINALISED AND OUTCASTES OF SOCIETY TRANSITION TO LIVING IN DIGNITY AND FREEDOM

Did you know?

• In 2018, India was declared the most dangerous country in the
world for women.
• The Jogini system has been practiced for over 2,000 years. It
was made illegal in 1988 but continues to be practiced today.
• Little girls as young as 5 years old can be dedicated to the
temple goddess without their consent. They have no idea that
once they hit puberty, they will be trapped in a lifetime of
religiously-sanctioned sexual abuse.
• There are estimated to be over 100,000 Joginis in nearly 3,000
villages. Ninety-three percent of Joginis are illterate, and 57%
have attempted suicide. They are ten times more likely to die
from HIV than other women in India.

Dignity Freedom Networks aim is to see the poor, marginalised and outcastes of society transition to living in Dignity and Freedom. Their programmes are designed, led and staffed by nationals, with a holistic approach focusing on four key areas…Education, Healthcare, Economic Empowerment and vulnerable communities.

Kate, who works with Dignity Freedom Network, just got back from India helping these people, caught up with Abby to talk about how she has been able to help, as well as a campaign they are running where YOU can help, and in light of ‘International Women’s Day’ which was held March 8, 2023.

Take a listen to Abby’s interview with Kate below.
