FROM OPRESSION TO OPPORTUNITY: THE STORY OF THE JOGINI WOMEN IN INDIA

Each year on International Women’s Day, we celebrate women’s achievements and spotlight those still waiting for justice, freedom, and dignity.

In our recent interview, Kate Rodwell from Dignity Freedom Network (DFN) joined us to share the powerful story of the Jogini women and girls in India — girls who, due to ancient cultural traditions, are denied the opportunity to choose their future.

But this year, we also got to celebrate good news. In the 350 villages where DFN operates, there have been no new dedications for over two years. That means, in those communities, no young girls have been forced into the system. Women are finding freedom, recidivism rates are near zero, and some former Joginis are now leading the movement for change within their own villages.

In our chat, Kate shared how simple support — like sponsoring a Jogini Village Leader or hosting a fundraiser — can literally help prevent a girl from being trapped in this system and give women a chance to rebuild their lives.
