Townsville locals wanting to get active are urged to get to the Get Active Expo this weekend.
More than 80 sports, recreation, health and fitness exhibitors will be at the event, along with 20 active zones for people to try out a sport.
Despite being postponed earlier in the year, this year’s event is shaping up as the biggest one yet. Townsville City Council’s Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said it was great to see the event go ahead after being called off earlier in the year. “We tried to hold this event in January just before the season started for a lot of sports but had to postpone it,” Cr Soars said.
“It was unfortunate for the event, but it is great to see so many exhibitors have committed to a July expo, and we expect to see thousands of people come to the Townsville Sports Precinct. It is never too late or early to start incorporating healthy activity into your life. This weekend, we have exhibitors ranging from the Townsville Dragon Boat Club to the North Queensland Figure Skating Association. There will be something for everyone at this year’s expo.”
The free event is on Sunday, 31 July at the Townsville Sports Precinct, North Ward, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
