It’s time to start planning how you’ll make your move in May with the active travel initiative offering up weekly prizes throughout the month.
Whether it’s walking, running, cycling or skateboarding, Townsville City Council wants to see you incorporate active travel into your life during the month of May.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said the make your move in May campaign was focused on getting locals to find small ways to move their bodies more each day.
“Active travel is an easy way to fit physical activity into your day, so think about how you can switch up your morning commute to school, uni or work to include some active travel,” Cr Soars said. “This could mean riding your bike to work, skateboarding to uni or walking to school as a family. It could also be as simple as parking your car a little further away than usual so you can take a short walk to work.”
Cr Soars said there were great prizes up for grabs during May.
“We want to reward locals who are committing to including active travel in their commutes this month, so we will have weekly prizes available for people who show us how they are embracing active travel and who have signed up to our Active and Healthy e-newsletter,” he said. “Prizes include a push bike valued at $850, wireless headphones, gift vouchers and active travel packs. With prizes like these it’s easy to see why you should get involved and make your move in May.”
