In a world filled with challenges like war, economic instability, poverty, and climate change, it’s no surprise that many Australians are grappling with a lack of hope. Tearfund’s recent Global Hope Report reveals that less than half of Australians feel hopeful about their personal future, and only 1 in 4 have hope for the future of the world.
However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The report highlights that faith, prayer, and strong Christian communities can significantly increase hope. In fact, 1 in 3 believers feel hopeful about the future, compared to just 1 in 5 non-believers. This shows the power of connection and shared purpose within the Church.
I had the privilege of interviewing Tearfund Australia’s Program Director, Greg Hewson, to delve deeper into these findings. Greg was closely involved in the development of the report and shared his thoughts on how the Church can inspire hope-filled action during these uncertain times.
One of the key takeaways from our conversation was that hope grows when people feel empowered to make a difference. This is where the Church plays a crucial role. From addressing global concerns like poverty and conflict to tackling the climate crisis, the Church can inspire collective action that not only brings hope but also creates lasting change. Take a listen to the full conversation below.
If you’re feeling disheartened by the state of the world, know that there are practical ways to turn that sense of hopelessness into positive action. Greg shared how churches and individuals are already making a difference, both locally and globally, by engaging in meaningful action that aligns with the values of justice, compassion, and love.
