Register now to have your art in Townsville libraries

Artists are being invited to apply for free exhibition space through Townsville City Council’s Art In The Library program. Six local artists will be selected by a panel to exhibit across Townsville’s three CityLibraries branches and run a workshop for members of the public to attend. Community and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson, Councillor Collen Doyle, said Townsville City Council was committed to promoting local artists. “We have a whole lot of talent in Townsville, and we want to be able to help foster that talent in the city and encourage artists to showcase their work in their home city,” Cr Doyle said. “We have a vibrant arts community here in Townsville and the Art In The Library initiative is another way we can celebrate our local artists. ”Cr Doyle said library visitors would be looking forward to the exhibitions. “Our CityLibraries are much more than just a place to borrow books – they’re hubs for families to bring their kids for story time, for teenagers to kick back and play video games with their friends, for browsing the internet, and more,” she said. “Adding an art exhibition and workshops as a new element will not only be exciting for regular library visitors, but will also bring new guests into our Thuringowa Central, Aitkenvale and Flinders Street Libraries.” The exhibitions will each run for one month, starting in April.
