The Stable is back at Riverway in 2023!!! This heartwarming Christmas Festival that has delighted the Townsville community for 22 years continues the cherished and unique tradition of Stable on the Strand. As the signature Christmas event of North Queensland, the festival draws over 30,000 people to Riverway for five exciting nights from the 18th to the 22nd of December.
The event brings to life the timeless Bethlehem Christmas story with live animals, convincing actors, authentic props, and a real Baby Jesus, to immerse attendees in the true spirit of the season which embraces families and people of all ages, ethnicities and abilities. The festival also offers a range of family-friendly activities for everyone including a side show alley, youth area, petting farm, yarning circle, oasis of hope, the Stable express and Raintree Grove where there will be free Christmas cake and tea and coffee for all attendees. There are two stages with excellent local singers and musicians and a food fair every night. Tuesday night there will be a special ‘food fiesta’ with over 20 food trucks representing a range of different tastes and cultures. Thursday night is ‘Christmas market night’ for those last-minute Christmas presents.
Since 2020, the organizers have adapted to the challenges posed by the pandemic with innovative solutions. The Stable once known as Stable on the Strand now calls Riverway home continuing to bring this unique festival to life for the Townsville community to experience the joy, hope, and meaning of Christmas through a free community event.
